About Patty Carpenter
Parents, teachers, students and taxpayers have learned they can trust Patty Carpenter’s maturity, experience and expertise.
As the Midlothian District's Representative on the Chesterfield County School Board, she has worked hard the last four years to address our school system’s needs and find solutions to tough problems. She builds on our community’s successes and addresses its issues, large and small.

Synergy
There is no single issue that can identify the best School Board candidate. Doing the job well requires putting together the pieces so the whole school system is greater than the sum of its parts.

“We must make certain we empower students, parents, teachers and others to do their best. We must avoid complacency, yet be cautious,” says Patty. “Experimenting with trendy educational concepts or unproven technology can waste time, talent and resources. The School Board and the administration must be very deliberate as they allocate taxpayers’ money and adopt policies that impact the lives of every Chesterfield citizen.”

Leadership
An effective School Board member avoids politics, cultivating a culture of collaboration, insists Patty. “We want our students collaborating with parents, teachers and other students,” she notes. “One reason I believe our sports programs and extracurricular activities are so important is that they teach valuable life skills such as teamwork, collaboration and leadership.”

As Patty Carpenter demonstrated when she led the campaign supporting Chesterfield County’s 2004 School Bond Referendum, she believes successful collaboration starts with careful listening followed up with specific answers.

Chesterfield County responded to the case Patty Carpenter’s team made. Voters passed the bond referendum by the largest percentage in the history of the county, 87.3 percent.

Serving on the Task Force for Redistricting for Chesterfield County’s Public Schools, Patty’s leadership helped establish the criteria the school board now depends upon when redistricting.

Experienced & Respected
In 2007 she was elected to serve as the Midlothian District's School Board Member. In 2011 her peers named her Vice Chairman of the School Board.  Patty also represents the School Board on several committees, including the county's Budget & Audit Committee, the county's Salary & Benefits Committee, and the School Board's Policy Advisory Committee.

Patty has been married to Dean Carpenter for 19 years. They have two boys, both attending Chesterfield County Public Schools. They are members of St. Edward’s Church.
